A field of 16 assembled at Southport for their advanced weekend with the players split into two blocks to contest the ‘Super B’ and B Level trophies.
Manager John Haslam oversaw proceedings in a genial and very friendly manner…and was even able to somehow arrange for most of the rain and all of the thunder and lightening that was due in the area on the Saturday to miss the club.
Some top notch catering was enjoyed by all and without any detrimental effect on the standard of play which was high over the whole weekend.
By Sunday afternoon, a clear winner had emerged for the Super B – Derek Knight of Beverley had won all 5 of his matches, with the runner up being Peter Moore of Nottingham on 3/5 who just pipped his fellow club member Clive Goode on total points scored.
In the B Level it was a closer affair but Dennis Scarr of Middlesbrough prevailed over local boy Don Williamson on a who beat whom basis after they both won 4/5.
