Brian Kerr wins B Level at Budleigh

Southport Croquet Club were delighted to learn that one of their members had won the Association B Level Tournament at Budleigh Salterton at the weekend. Budleigh is a large club like Southport and their popular 3 day competition attracting many entries, Southport member Brian Kerr played against competitors from as far afield as Australia. The competition is run as an ‘Egyptian’: all players starting with equal scores and receiving plus ten points for a win and less ten points for a lose. In addition, there was a prize for the fastest game, which sped up play at the risk of error and bringing game times down by a half. In spite of fast play, Brian was ahead of the field at the end of day two and had two games still to play. The final saw two players, Brian Pullen from Sussex County Croquet Club and Brian Kerr of Southport finish with equal scores of 150 points, but an analysis of games played clearly gave Brian Kerr the edge to win the competition. Meanwhile, travelling the world was not wasted for the Australian, Bill Humphries who was awarded the fastest game.Brian Kerr presentation2
